Cuckoo was opened in May 2006. The original concept behind the shop was to bring a London shopping experience to Cambridge. Cuckoo's founder was inspired by the markets and shopping streets of Islington, and its surrounding area, and wanted that same eclectic mix to be available in the Burwash shop.
The initial idea was to have vintage clothing sitting alongside a cherry picked, vintage inspired collection that offered a quirky and fresh approach to fashion. As the shop has evolved and expanded the vintage clothing has been replaced with brands favoured for their textiles, textures and wearability. The original inspiration has not been lost though, and Cuckoo regulars describe the shops as 'treasure troves' that are always worth exploring for that illusive piece of clothing, gift or accessory that is just a little bit different from the norm.
